Both Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman and Sony Ericsson txt pro are feature phones with Sony Ericsson’s proprietary software. However, they have Xperia-like UI.

Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman

Just like the name, this phone is intended for music lovers focusing on entertainment with special feature called Zappin button which allows you to preview the chorus of the next song when you press it. It also works as pocket pocket karaoke machine where you can lower the vocal track of any song while you play it just like the normal karaoke.

Physically, the Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman is very compact (95.8 x 52.8 x 14.3mm, 88g) with 3-inches WQVGA screen, 3.3 megapixel camera. In addition to Wi-Fi and microSD card slot (up to 32GB), you can also personalize the look of the phone with exchangeable color bands which come in the box.

Sony Ericsson txt pro

This phone focuses on social communication. It comes with a slide out four-row QWERTY keyboard for quick messaging, 3-inches WQVGA screen, 3.2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and microSD card slot.

The Sony Ericsson txt pro has an integrated friends application that enables you to add your five best friends for easy access to their latest updates from Facebook and Twitter.

Unfortunately, the Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman and txt pro phone support 2G network only. If you’re interested on these phones, you can expect to see it to come out in Q3 2011. No pricing info yet so far.

BlackBerry Bold 9930/9900

BlackBerry 9930/9900 is a CDMA/GSM hybrid with a 2.8-inch capacitive touch screen and a 1.2 Ghz processor. The device also equipped with a 5 MP camera, 768MB of RAM and 8GB built-in memory. This is the first BlackBerry device to launch with the newly released BlackBerry OS 7 and to support NFC technology. The BlackBerry 9930/9900 was announced on May 2, 2011 and expected to be available on Q3 2011.

Motorola XPRT

Announced on May 5, 2011, Motorola XPRT is a dual-mode smartphone capable for roaming internationally on GSM networks. It’s powered by Android 2.2 Froyo with MOTOBLUR, 3.1-inches touchscreen display, 5MP camera, 1Ghz processor and Adobe Flash 10 support.

Motorola Titanium

Announced at the same day with the Motorola XPRT, Motorola Titanium is the Sprint’s successor to the i1 running Android 2.1 Eclair with 3.1-inches touchscreen display, 5MP camera, Push-to-talk support and dust, shock, vibration, low pressure, solar radiation, high temperature and low temperature resistance.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini

Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini announced on May 6, 2011 and expected to be available on Q3 2011. It runs on Android 2.3 and powered by a 1Ghz Snapdragon processor, 3-inches touchscreen, 5MP camera with HD video capture capability. According to Sony Ericsson, the Xperia Mini is the smallest device in the world that can record HD video.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro

Announced at the same day with the Xperia Mini, it runs on Android 2.3 euipped with a slide out landscape QWERTY keyboard and a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor. It has a 3-inches touchscreen and a 5MP camera capable for HD video capture. The Xperia Mini Pro is expected to be availble on Q3 2011.

Sharp Aquos SH-12C

Sharp Aquos SH-12C is specifically released for Japanese market. Announced at May 11, 2011, Sharp Aquos SH-12C comes with a tremendous hardware specs including dual 8 megapixel camera capable to capture 3D photos and 3D videos. It’s also powered by 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, 4.2-inches qHD (540×960) 3D display. The Sharp Aquos SH-12C available from NTT Docomo Japan started from May 20, 2011.

Well, that’s all new smartphone releases in May 2011 we can reported. If you notice there’s something we’ve missed on this list, please do not hesitate to inform us. And last but not least, please share here which one is your favorite.

The newly announced Sony Ericsson Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro are absolutely mini in size but not with the capability and performance. However how mini they are and how good are the features, you have to wait until August 2011 when the phone available on the market worldwide. Along with the announcement of Xperia Mini, Xperia Mini Pro and Xperia Acro, Sony Ericsson also brings new deep integration of Facebook into their system called “Facebook Inside Xperia”. This new feature will debut on the new Xperia mini products and will become standard features for upcoming software update to the Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY and other handsets in the Xperia family. So, what’s the “Facebook Inside Xperia” is all about?

It’s basically a new way of using Facebook features on your Xperia phone which now directly integrated as the Xperia features. The Sony Ericsson blog noted some main features of the “Facebook Inside Xperia”. Check out also the Facebook Inside Xperia home page.

Single sign on to Facebook – when you start your phone for the first time, you will be prompted an option to log in to Facebook and create permanent connection to it. From there you don’t need to login to Facebook or other similar apps to use Facebook. The good thing is, you can also choose whether to set this option automatically or turn specific parts off.

Contact sync with Facebook – besides the contact sync between your local contacts with Facebook contacts just like on current Facebook app, this new integration added more Facebook info on your phone contact. In this way, you can see your friend’s status, photos or likes just by looking up from your phone book.

Facebook photos in your phone Gallery - in addition to the local pictures and other pictures gallery like Picasa pictures, now you will have your Facebook photos and Facebook photos you’re tagged in directly on your phone gallery.

Like-button on Music player – now you can have new experience in enjoying music on your phone. With the new like-button on the music player you can share the music you are listening to your Facebook friends by clicking the “like” on the song. From there your friends can learn more about those songs and also listen to it for some songs or even buy it. This works through the Sony Ericsson Track-ID service.

Media discovery widget – there will a dedicated widget included to show you the videos and music that your friends shared on their Facebook wall including YouTube, Spotify etc which you can view easily too.

Well, it’s no doubt that Facebook is a must have features or app for mobile phone nowadays. A report even said that up to 50% of consumers app time is used in the Facebook app. So, no wonder from now on will see this kind of integration on more new smartphones.

The Xperia Acro is powered by 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and Adreno 205 GPU, running Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The multimedia capabilities are supported by the famous Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine with Reality Display and extra wide 4.2-inch screen. The 8.1 megapixel camera with ‘Exmor R for mobile’ capable to capture low-noise, high quality images and 720p HD video recording, even in low light, plus HDMI output.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini

Other specifications include a 3-inch scratch resistant, multi-touch glass screen, 5 megapixel camera (with autofocus, face-detection and LED flash), quadband GSM/EDGE, UMTS/HSDPA, Wi-Fi, AGPS, Bluetooth, an FM radio and a 3.5mm headphones. The phone also comes with a bigger battery 1200mAh than the last generation of mini which supposed to add up to 30% longer runtimes.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro

Along with these smartphones, Sony Ericsson also unveiled a new deep Facebook integration features called “Facebook inside Xperia”. This new feature will debut on Xperia Mini and Xperia Mini Pro and soon will be available accross Xperia devices.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini will hit the market worldwide in August 2011 and will be available in white, black and dark pink colors. While Xperia Mini Pro at the same time will be offered in white, black and turquoise. No pricing yet to be confirmed so far.

Sony Ericsson Xperia™ mini pro and Xperia™ mini with HD will be available globally in selected markets from Q3.

During the weekend, there was a rumor spread out showing pictures of Sony Ericsson Windows Phone 7 prototype. Those pictures popped up on a Chinese site and soon become a hot news among gadget blogs and websites. From our eyes, it doesn’t seem to be a Photoshop works or even if so, it must be very difficult to make such kind of mocked up pictures. So, we would say these pictures are likely taken from a real handset which intended for testing purpose.

As you can see on the pictures, it basically features a slide-out QWERTY keyboard similar to LG Quantum and HTC 7 Pro. Unfortunately, there’s no additional info regarding specs, etc. At the bottom of the handset, it’s clearly labelled as a prototype not for sale. And according to some sources, this handset could be the prototype handset during the early development of Windows Phone 7 over a year ago when Sony Ericsson was announced as a key launch partner. It also can be seen by looking at those old tiles on the Windows Phone 7 UI.

Well, despite all these things are true or not, it’s not impossible though that Sony Ericsson could come out with Windows Phone 7 handsets in the future especially after Nokia decided to join forces with Microsoft. And if it happens and looking at the latest Sony Ericsson’s release in it’s Android line up, we probably could expect to see a Sony Ericsson Windows Phone 7 handset with at least 1GHz processor, 512MB RAM, a display over 3.5-inch, 8 megapixel camera, HD video recording and of course the Mobile BRAVIA and Sony Exmor R technology in place.

While the Sony Exmor R for mobile sensor enable the capture of high quality, bright pictures and HD videos even in low light.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo

Specifically for the Xperia Pro, it introduces the subtle but fast Type & Send functionality eliminating the need to open a didicated app for each type of message, and Smart Keyboard that triggers predictive messaging actions automatically when the users slides out the keyboard. Morevoer, it also provides specific features for business including syncing your email, calendar and contacts in a secure way and the pre-loaded Office Suite Pro.

Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon processor at 1Ghz and embedded Adreno GPU graphics processor which capable to deliver silky smooth 60fps play-back 3D mobile gaming and Web browsing, the Xperia Play will run on Android Gingerbread 2.3. Sony Ericsson also claimed that the phone will have minimal power consumption to enable users enjoy long hours of battery life and game time.

In portrait mode, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play offers all benefits that people have come to expect from Sony Ericsson’s existing range of Xperia smartphone including 5 megapixel camera, 4-inch multi-touch screen and great social networking features. While when slide-out, you’ll find the gaming control with a digital D pad, two analogue touch pad, two shoulder buttons and the four PlayStation icons: circle, cross, square and triangle.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play will be the first Android smartphone to feature Sony’s PlayStation Suite, a gaming platform for cell phones that will eventually bring an extensive developer-friendly gaming environment to smartphone operating systems. At the moment, it will let people to play PS One games on the Xperia Play.

There are few carriers that are already confirmed to get the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play including O2 in the UK, Vodafone, Orange UK, T-Mobile UK, Three and Rogers Canada. I haven’t seen any info whether SoftBank here in Japan will also get this Xperia Play.
