The iPhone Dev-Team has released the latest version of the famous iPhone unlocking tool UltraSn0w 1.2. This new version will unlock iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS running the latest iOS 4.2.1 with a baseband later than 05.13.04. However, for those of you who want to execute this unlocking process, i strongly recommend you to read carefully the iPhone Dev-Team post.

Basically the UltraSn0w 1.2 covers the unlock process for iPhone 4 baseband 01.59.00 and iPhone 3G/3GS basebands 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04 and now 06.15.00. So please carefully check your iPhone baseband before running this process.

For those of you who has the baseband 05.14 or 05.15, you need to upgrade it to 06.15 first then run the unlock process again. However it’s a little bit risky and not really recommended even by the iPhone Dev-Team if you don’t really need it unless you need the unlock.

Certainly don’t update to 06.15 if you don’t need to! Only do this if you need the unlock and you’re stuck on 05.14 or 05.15, and you’re willing to assume the above risks.

The iPhone Dev-Team has released the PwnageTool 4.1.3 Unlock Edition which will enable you to update the baseband to 06.15.00. And for those who don’t have Macs, the iPhone Dev-Team will release the new redSn0w with the option to update the baseband to 06.15 too.

Just in the next few days, the newly announced iPhone 4 will hit the Apple Stores. The pre-order of the iPhone 4 in select contries will start next week on June 15th and the handsets will be available on June 24th. So are you ready to buy the iPhone 4 or replace your current iPhone 3GS? If so i would suggest you to see the comparison of the iPhone 4 vs iPhone 3GS below before you make your final decision.

From Apple’s website:

From Engadget:

I think in all aspects the iPhone 4 is much better than the iPhone 3GS. But again it’s all depend on you. Everybody has their own considerations. But as of me, i would go with the iPhone 4.

As far as i know, most of iPhone which is sold from a carrier comes with a contract included the data access through it’s 3G network. That’s the same case with me here in Japan. Softbank as the official carrier offers the data access in a flat-rate packet with a price range based on the usage. But after used it for few months i found that the price is so expensive and decided not to use it anymore. To do that i use what’s called FakeAPN and it works fine until now on my iPhone 3G and i think it should also works fine in iPhone 3GS.

SoftBank Flat-rate packet for iPhone

Basically the FakeAPN sets the APN on the iPhone to a random value. A valid APN is needed to be set correctly on the iPhone for it to access data. And by changing it to a random value it will make th edata access not work which means disabled on the iPhone. We should be able to set it manually however for some iPhones by default, the APN Settings are hidden so you can’t change them. According to the latest info, thhe “FakeAPN” is not needed for iPhone OS 4.0 anymore as the feature is build into the OS.

Well, to do this is really simple:

Open the website of the FakeAPN www.unlockit.co.nz from the iPhone browser. You may use a Wi-Fi network while doing this.

Once the website is opened it will guide you to the next steps. There will be two options available whether to “Disable Data (FakeAPN)” or to set “Custom APN”. In my case i just select the first option.

On the next step you will be asked to install the FakeAPN. Once the installation is done you data access will be disabled.

That’s all. If the installation is successful, you will find the FakeAPN profile on “Settings – General – Profile”. If you want to enable the data access again later, just go to this section and remove the profile. I have tried this and so far i have no problem. For data access i use Wi-Fi instead of the 3G network and it saves me almost 80% of my phone bill. Hope it works for you too.

Once again the Rogers iPhone 3GS 8GB is spread over the rumor and i wish i could be the first to report it. This time Gizmodo posted a new evidence about the existence of the iPhone 3GS 8GB in Rogers. It came from a Rogers employee who managed to get the screenshoot of the Rogers internal system called Hardware Upgrade Sales Flow System and it’s clearly show that the phone is there, lucky Gizmodo!

According to one of Rogers former employee who commented on the post, sales Central is the internal website that all staff use and it’s never been wrong. So, no matter how Rogers is trying to hide it the rumor has it and now it gets more details as shown below:

It clearly shows that an 8GB 3GS has been added to our stock list and is the same price as the 3G coming in at 99$…

The first listing is showing 74.00$ (promo price with data plan and minus customers 25$ discount)

The second listing shows the phone if the customer does not choose a data plan, which is normall 299$ minus said $25 discount, so 274$

I think that when 3G stock runs out they are going to build 99$ 3GSs since those are the parts they are ordering, might as well keep the parts list minimal…

So once again, it’s good to hear that and seems like in the next few weeks or months we’re going to see the iPhone 3GS 8GB and say goodbye to the iPhone 3G.

Remember last week i posted an info regarding the iPhone 3GS 8GB is coming to Rogers? At that time, a leaked document shows that Rogers is to offer the iPhone 3GS 8GB soon. And today another info seems to confirm the availability of the device and this time the info comes from the Rogers iPhone 3GS web page.

From the features comparison between the iPhone 3G and 3GS it’s clearly seen that the iPhone 3GS 8GB is exist together with the 16GB and 32GB capasity and already listed on Rogers inventory although it’s still doesn’t say anything yet. The order page of Rogers website currently only shows the iPhone 3GS 16GB and 32GB only. The iPhone 3GS 16GB is offered at $199 while the 32GB is offered at $299 both for 3 year plan.

Anyway, so far this is the only info available for public that the iPhone 3GS 8GB is coming to Rogers. We’ll keep you updated when there’s more details info.

A document at BGR recently reported that Apple is going to launch the 8GB version of the iPhone 3GS. According to the leaked document, the iPhone 3GS 8GB is in the process of shipping to Rogers Canada. However currently there’s no info yet about the pricing.

Looking at the Appple’s current iPhone lineup, the iPhone 3G 8GB is offered at $99, 3GS 16GB at $199, and 3GS 32GB at $299. Witht the launch of the iPhone 3GS 8GB, it’s likely that the phone will replace the $99 iPhone 3G 8GB. With this condition, the iPhone 3G 8GB could be dropped to bargain-basement $49 or may be discontinued.

The YouTube blog announced that the daily uploads directly from mobile phones to YouTube has been increased by 400% since last Friday when the iPhone 3GS launched. It didn’t mention specifically that those uploads came from the iPhone 3GS, but the video recording capability of the iPhone 3GS that makes it easier to post a video to YouTube could be the reason behind.

This growth represents three things coming together: new video-enabled phones on the market, improvements to the upload flow when you post a video to YouTube from your phone, and a new feature on YouTube that allows your videos to be quickly and effortlessly shared through your social networks. It takes just a minute to connect your YouTube account to your Facebook, Twitter and Google Reader accounts. Complete a simple, one-time connection on our upload page to allow all your friends and followers to get a real-time stream of your uploads to YouTube, which can be essential in this age of citizen reporting and ubiquitous sharing.

Finally after waiting for so long, the rumors come true. Apple just made an announcement about the new iPhone codenamed iPhone 3GS on the WWDC event today. The “S” of the new name stands for “Speed” showing that the new iPhone has speed 3 times faster than the current model iPhone 3G. Physically the new iPhone 3GS mostly looks the same as the existing iPhone 3G model. In this event there’s no Steve Jobs appearance.

As previously mentioned on the rumors before, the iPhone 3GS equipped with 3.2 megapixels camera with auto focus and video capturing capabilities in 30 frames per second also with auto focus and exposure control. Videos are kept in the photo library which can be edited on the phone and uploaded to YouTube and Mobileme as well via MMS.

In the next few hours we probably will know how is the new iPhone exactly as the WWDC traditionally used by Apple to announce new products, updates and more. And the new iPhone is one of the thing that people are the awaited most. But before that you probably want to know some latest updates regarding the rumors around the new iPhone.

It’s John Gruber from darringfireball who posted about the new iPhone. We are not sure how accurate it is but the info was so interesting. Based on the info Apple looks like would change the naming scheme of the iPhone products as the upcoming models will be given the codename “iPhone 3GS”. It will have a significantly faster processors, twice capacity of the RAM and the storage. Another thing is that the video camera capabilities will be a major selling point. In addition, the new iPhone will have a longer battery life which is expected to be 15-20 percent longer than the current model iPhone 3G.

For the dimension, the new iPhone most probably will have the same or similar size with the iPhone 3G as well as the screen size. The new iPhone is estimated to be offered at the price $199/299 for 16GB/32GB. All those info were so interested. However no body knows, so lets wait and hopefully i can post the actual info real soon.
