LG and Wikitude on Tuesday announced the first 3D AR (Augmented Reality) browser in the world coming to the LG Optimus 3D Android smartphone. Compared to the 2D AR which only displays overlapped objects, the stereoscopic screen of the LG Optimus 3D can show places of interest, landmarks and objects in 3D giving better experience to distinguish objects.

The browser also allows you to discover details about their surroundings and access related Wikipedia articles and Twitter information. Those information database of Wikitute 3D contains over 100 million locations around the world from more than 1,000 content providers. The 3D browser it self will support 12 languages and more will be added in the future.

Well, albeit AR is nothing new but the use of 3D technology without glasses is really cool. The Wikitude 3D can be download from the LG’s dedicated application store, LG World for free starting in the middle of June. The LG Optimus 3D it self will be available from AT&T later in 2011 as Thrill 4G.

LG OPTIMUS 3D ADDS ANOTHER INNOVATIVE “FIRST”WITH 3D AUGMENTED REALITY
Collaboration with Wikitude Gives 3D a Whole New DimensionSEOUL and SALZBURG, AUSTRIA, May 11, 2011 – LG Electronics (LG), in collaboration with augmented reality (AR) pioneer Wikitude, today announced the adoption of the world’s first three dimensional AR browser on its upcoming LG Optimus 3D smartphone.

The Wikitude 3D browser allows for better interaction and engagement with real-time user environments. While 2D AR only displays overlapped objects, 3D AR shows places, landmarks and objects in 3D making them easier to distinguish. The browser al-lows users to discover details about their surroundings and access related Wikipedia articles and Twitter information.

“AR technology has been praised for its potential to replace the ‘abstract’ realities of standard mobile browsers with ‘actual’ reality streamed through the camera of the smartphone,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, CEO and President of LG Mobile Communica-tions Company. “LG’s cutting-edge hardware and 3D API software technology now pushes this reality a step further.”

Wikitude 3D includes information on over 100 million locations around the world, with contributions from more than 1,000 content providers. The browser currently provides support for 12 languages with plans to increase this number in the near future. Users can download Wikitude 3D from LG World, LG`s dedicated application store for free, staring in the middle of June.

“The synergy here is simply perfect and the resulting partnership has the potential to take both AR and smartphones to a whole new level,” said Martin Herdina, CEO of Wikitude.

The LG Optimus 3D introduces a number of innovative first technologies, including the world’s first dual-core, dual-channel, dual-memory architecture, as well as the first full 3D platform providing glasses-free viewing, recording and sharing of 3D content.

The LG Optimus 3D will be available this summer starting in Europe followed by other markets around the world.

Augmented Reality (AR) is a real-time technology which works by overlaying detailed information on user surroundings, including graphics, audio, and more, as captured through smartphone cameras and other devices.

LG surely meant it when they claimed the LG Optimus 2X as the world’s first dual-core smartphone. And now not only theme selves, but the world seemingly has to know that fact as the phone received a Guinness Records for that.

As written on the statement on official Guinness website,

The first mobile phone to use a dual core processor is the LG Optimus 2X, which was first made available to the public nationwide in South Korea, on 25 January 2011.

Just to remind you, the LG Optimus 2X arrived stateside as the T-Mobile G2X. It’s the same dual-core processor handset as the original Koren version but with a more vanilla look to the OS.

Many people probably have forgot the MeeGo OS especially after Nokia finally decided to abandon it and joined with Microsoft Windows Phone instead. However, there’s one company who still show it’s support for this open source platform. It’s LG/LGE who plans to present LG MeeGo prototype devices at MeeGo Conference held in San Fransisco on May 23-25.

On the session summary it’s said that this event will show LG MeeGo devices and present porting experience of MeeGo 1.2 into multiple LG devices. So as you can see on the title there will be more than one device. It’s not clearly though whether LG will make those devices commercial or just for research purpose. But surely this will be the first MeeGo devices after the abandoned Nokia few months ago.

This also becomes interesting looking at big steps LG has taken lately. We all know how the LG Optimus 2X came as the world’s first dual-core smartphone and also other great smartphones and tablets LG has released. So, i just wonder whether LG will use similar hardware for their MeeGo devices with what they have at the moment. And also how if the MeeGo 1.2 ported to run on LG Optimus 2X hardware.

LGBlogUK has just released a new commercial video to celebrate the launch of the LG Optimus 2X. The video was taken at Oxford Street, one of the busies streets in Europe. The interesting thing about this video is that you wouldn’t see any LG Optimus 2X handset shown up. Instead, it shows some inspectors fine people in London for walking slowly.

Just like the title of the video “LG Optimus 2X – Slow Fines”, you can see some inspectors on the video stop people who walk too slowly and give a ticket called “Slow Penalty Charge Notice”. This effort has received mix reactions. Some people were angry but majority were happy and welcome this good effort. And the team claimed that they have issued hundreds of tickets and helped to speed up the Oxford street at least on that day.

The idea of this video i believe is not just to speed up the Oxford street like the inspectors did. But more than that, the LG Optimus 2X believed can speed up your life too and increase your productivity. Just to remind you, the LG Optimus 2X is the first smartphone with a dual-core processor in the world which makes it as one of the world’s fastest smartphones at the moment.

Among those many smartphones launched during the MWC event in the last couple of days, Samsung Galaxy S II and LG Optimus 3D are probably few of them that really attract people attention. The Samsung Galaxy S II uses the Samsung’s own dual-core processor Exynos 4210 and Super AMOLED Plus display. While the LG Optimus 3D is world’s first smartphone to use dual-core, dual-channel and dual-memory architecture with the Texas Instruments OMAP4 4430 processor. But when it comes to performance which one do you think performs better?

A benchmark testing performed by folks at Anandtech recently shows that the Optimus 3D’s TI OMAP 4 performed better than the Samsung’s Exynos 4210. Moreover, the OMAP 4 even has a better performance compared to the famous NVIDIA Tegra 2.

Just yesterday, Android fans got big surprises with the release of the monster Android LG Optimus 2X and few hours later the mysterious “LG B” with stunning display were leaked on images. And it didn’t stop there, the official LG Twitter account for CES 2011 “accidentally” confirmed that the LG B will be at the CES 2011 and invited everyone to see that device at the CES. But then that “revealing tweet” were deleted which means there’s some kind of miscommunication or something like that.

But someone managed to capture the tweet as a proof below. And this supposed to be the link to the deleted tweet.

However, there’s an ironic thing just happened here. Let me tell you the story. The LG B news was posted at Phandroid for the firs time as they got it from their tipster. Engadget then posted on their blog and put Phandroid as the source. But you know what, if you look at the URL on the LG’s tweet above, it links back to the Engadget’s post about the LG B. That’s ridiculous!

Now LG has become one of serious contenders among Android phones manufacturers. Just few hours after the announcement of the monster Android LG Optimus 2X with Tegra 2 dual-core processor, LG reportedly is working on another device codenamed LG B. Could it be another monster Android? We don’t know yet since there’s no info about the specs so far. But the screen is said to be stunning, really? Do you think it would be better than the iPhone retina display or Samsung Super AMOLED? Soon we’ll know after more info comes.

But at the moment let’s take a look at the LG B sitting side-by-side with the iPhone 4 and Samsung Galaxy S. The LG B is in the middle and said to have brighter display. But personally i can’t tell by looking at this picture. What do you think?

But look at the next comparison. This time the LG B is obviously thinner than both the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S. I think you must be agree at this point.

Unfortunately no specs available at the moment. How come this tipster just came with the photos. Anyway, looking forward to see more leaks coming. So stay tuned and we’ll keep you updated about this phone.

Seems like LG wants to close the 2010 year with a joyful glory as they managed to record their brand to release the world’s first dual-core smartphone with the launch of LG Optimus 2X. Previously known as the LG Star, the Optimus 2X comes with the powerful dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor running at 1GHz making it the fastest dual-core smartphone in the world so far. The LG Optimus 2X will be available in Korea next month followed by Europe and Asia but US release was not mentioned. That would be good for LG to start the 2011.

The LG Optimus 2X currently running Android 2.2 (Froyo) but LG has confirmed that the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) update will come eventually.

In the last few days, there has been a tough discussion about what devices that are likely to get the Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade and what will not. And part of the devices that were debated is the LG Optimus series which is currently running Android 2.2 Froyo. LG previously mentioned that the Optimus will not get the Gingerbread upgrade due to 1GHz processor requirement and that was where the discussion began. But seems like LG doesn’t want to spoil their brand image and finally confirmed that the LG Optimus Ones will get the Gingerbread upgrade. Not only one but all Optimus Ones series.

Here is the official statement from LG,

LG will upgrade all Optimus One smartphones currently using the Froyo OS to the next version of the Android OS, Gingerbread. Details of the upgrade schedule will be announced locally in due course. We sincerely apologize for the confusion and misunderstanding that was caused regarding this issue.

Well, looking at this case i’m just thinking how powerful is the social media like Facebook and of course blogs nowdays.
