Digitimes reported that Acer has just announced that they have joined the Open Handset Alliance (OHA) on June 1. Acer becomes the third Taiwan-based phone vendors to join the OHA after the High Tech Computer (HTC) and Asustek Computer.
Following the announcement, Acer plans to launch its first Android-powered smartphone in Q4 2009. HTC it self has already launched two Android phones HTC Dream (G1) and HTC Magic and plans to launch 3-4 more in second half of 2009. Another vendors like Samsung, Motorola and Sony Ericsson also working on their own Android phones. So, looks like 2009 is going to be the Android Year.
