As promised, finally Sony Ericsson officially confirmed that the Android 2.1 upgrade will start rolling out to the Xperia X10. Not only the Xperia X10 but also to Xperia X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro. The upgrade will start this Sunday evening, exactly the end of October as previously announced and Europe users will be the first to receive the update. Hopefully will not take so long for the rest of the world as so many people have been suffered waiting for the upgrade.

This upgrade will bring all features from Android 2.1 including the HD-vide recording in 720p with continous auto focus for Xperia X10. That’s probably why the next Xperia X10 devices will be rebranded to Xperia X10 HD. From the UI side, it’s said to be a mix of things added or changed going from Android 1.6 to Android 2.1 and changed or improbed made by Sony Ericsson directly.
In summary, these are key changes due to the Android 2.1 upgrade for Xperia X10, Xperia X10 Mini and Xperia X10 Mini Pro:
Xperia X10:
- HD video recording with continuous auto-focus for high quality videos
- Upgrade of the Android platform to Android 2.1
- New back up and restore application, with extended content back up
- 5 homescreens for apps, widgets, shortcuts and folders
- Social phonebook which automatically syncs contact pictures from Facebook and shows when your friends are online
Xperia X10 mini and X10 mini pro:
- Improved Bluetooth functionality with support for sending and receiving pictures, contacts and more
- New backup and restore application with extended content back up
- Automatic synchronization of your contact pictures between Facebook and your phone book
- Improved ways of handling pictures, audio, text and numbers in your messages
- Upgrade of the Android platform to Android platform 2.1
Better late then never huh? I know many people have been waiting for the update since last weekend. If you want to know how eagerly they want this upgrade you can check this out. So, as what Sony Ericsson said, the upgrade will be rolled out in phase region per region. So if you haven’t seen any upgrade for your region just wait a moment and be patient.
