There’s no iPhone 4G or iPhone HD, instead it’s called iPhone 4 and just announced by Steve Jobs in the WWDC 2010. Apple brings a lot of big features and improvements to this new generation of iPhone both in hardware and software. It includes the all new design, Retina Display technology, the A4 processor, Gyroscope, a whole new camera system, iPhone OS 4 which the name has been changed into iOS4, iBooks for iPhone and iAds. In his presentation, Steve Jobs also introduced the Video Call between iPhone 4 devices called FaceTime which currently only support Wi-Fi connection. The iPhone 4 will be available starting from June 24th in two colors, Black and White with the price of $199 for 16GB and $299 for the 32GB
All new design – 9.3mm thick which is 24mm thinner than the iPhone 3GS with glass on the front and rear. It’s claimed as the thinnest smartphone on the planet. It also has the front facing camera and camera with LED Flash on the back. On the bottom, there’s a 30-pin connection, microphone while on the top, there’s the Voice cancellation mic, headset jack and sleep wake button.
Retina Display – the new display technology which brings up the resolution by 2x in each direction. It’s described as multiplying the pixel density of a normal display by 4. The Retina Display has 326 pixels per inch instead of 320 which is claimed as the first ever in a phone. In summary, the iPhone 4 has 3.5 inch display, 960×640, 326 pixels per inch, 800:1 contrast ratio (4x better), IPS Technology for superb color and wide viewing angle.
A4 Processor – the iPhone 4 is powered by the A4 processor, a chip designed by the Apple team using microsim. With the A4, the iPhone improves the battery usage by as much as 40% makes it can be used for 7 hours of 3G talk, 6 hours of 3G browsing, 10 hours of WiFi browsing, 10 hours of video, 300 hours of standby. This chip also supports Quad-band HSDPA/HSUPA 7.2 MBps down, 5.8 MBps upload, dual mic noise surpression.
Gyroscope – the iPhone 4 comes with a new techology called 3-axis Gysroscope, adding pitch/roll/yaw and rotation around gravity which is perfect for gaming.
A whole new camera system – the Iphone 4 comes with 5 megapixel camera with backside illuminated sensor, allowing more light to get to the sensor, 5x digital zoom, built into the camera app, LED Flash. The camera also supports HD video recording with 720p at 30fps, tap to focus video, built-in video editing and the iMovie for iPhone to edit your video for $4.99.
iPhone OS 4 – the new OS now has changed it’s name to just iOS 4. It supports some new features such as folders, task switchers, and unified mailbox. The iPhone 4 also adds BING as the third search option while Google will stay the default.
iBooks – the iBooks is now available for iPhone with the same bookmarking, the same highlighting and notes with the iPad version. And also the same PDF reading. You can also purchase and download the same book for all of your devices at no extra charge. iBooks will automatically sync your notes, books, and place wirelessly accross all of your devices.
iAds - Steve Jobs said the reason behind the implementation of the iAds is to help their developer earn money so they can continue building apps. There are some advertisers for the iAds so far such as Nissan, Unilever, AT&T, Citi, Chanel, GE, Liberty Mutual, State Farm, Geico, Campbell, Sears, JC Penny, Target, Best Buy, Direct TV, TBS, and Disney. The iAds goes live on July 1st.
So that’s the iPhone 4, a wonderful job by Apple. AT&T is upgrading eligibility details. If you contract is up any time in 2010, you can upgrade to the iPhone 4 (if you renew your contract). In addition to this announcement, the iPhone 3G is being retired while the iPhone 3GS 8GB is going to be $99. The iPhone 4 will ship in June for US, Canada, and 3 other countries. In July, 18 other countries will join that list, 24 more in August and 40 more in September.

Yeah, i don’t really like the design either..doesn’t look like an ‘iPhone’..
